Justice for All Montana

My candidacy for the Montana Supreme Court is off to a strong start, after winning more than 52% of the primary vote on June 8th, with leading margins in 36 counties. I believe my support from Montanans is based on my commitment to equal justice, my balanced background, and my reputation for fairness and integrity.

• Broad Legal Experience: I have 25 years of legal experience that includes both public service and private practice. For the past 10 years, I have worked in the private practice of law, representing individuals, businesses, law enforcement and taxpayers throughout Montana. Prior to that, I spent nearly 12 years in the Montana Department of Justice under two administrations, working with law enforcement, keeping violent criminals behind bars, and working to safeguard Montanans’ right to participate in their government. I have appeared before the Montana Supreme Court in dozens of cases.
• Balance: I have earned a reputation for honesty, integrity, fairness, hard work and respect. My candidacy is supported by prosecutors and public defenders, plaintiffs’ and defense lawyers, former legislators from both political parties, and both of the former Attorneys General under whom I served -- one a Republican and one a Democrat. I believe in the Supreme Court’s role in our government as the impartial guardian of the Constitution and the rule of law.
• Commitment: I have been a leader in the legal profession in working toward equal access to the courts and will work to ensure access to justice for all Montanans. Every case that comes to the Supreme Court deserves full attention, and every party deserves a Justice who will give them fair consideration and equal treatment. I will be that Justice. As a member of the Supreme Court, I will work to preserve the independence of the judiciary and to strengthen confidence in our legal system.
